6/7/21 - Current Troop Happenings

We had a nice number of Scouts at this week's meeting! The Scouts had Patrol Time to work on advancement. Our current goal is to get all Scouts up to Tenderfoot rank prior to summer camp. We are thrilled that Scouts who are already Second Class or above are using this opportunity to teach and mentor the younger Scouts; great job boys!

Since we love to camp... our next camping trip is river rafting at the Kern River on 6/25. Water flow is questionable but in the event there is not enough water to raft, we will be camping along the river and having fun. This will also be the first camping trip with the new equipment trailer, yay!

We have been emphasizing the importance of the Scout Oath... what it means and how it relates to daily life:

"On my honor, I will do my best, to due my duty, to God and my Country, and to obey the Scout Law: To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight".

This is more than a collection of words the boys recite at meetings. It is an oath they are taking that should be guiding them during meetings and at all times. We discussed what reciting this oath should mean and how it directly relates to our Troop motto, which is the bible verse, 1 Thessalonians 5:11, which states

"Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing".

This verse was chosen when we started this Troop as a guiding principle for what we wanted our Troop to stand for.

Go Troop 218!!
